artist statement:

my work takes an interest in the immediacy and fluidity of abstraction. i am currently investigating and developing a practice in which work is a reaction or impulse to ideas and feelings, rather than the byproduct of hours of deliberation and rigid execution. i aim to cultivate a ludic approach to making that allows thoughts to speak for themselves as much as they can and to do so without passing through the self-conscious, mental filter we’ve learned to place on self-expression. it is my hope that this process will lead to the creation of more intuitive and resonant work. further, through this practice, i am exploring a longstanding, personal interest in stripping back and reducing ideas to their barest parts and presenting these fragments out of their original context. i’ve found that it is in this new, minimal existence that the familiar becomes curious and the strange becomes approachable.
